The weather was cooler and a breeze was blowing. Bradman and Oxenhain played bright cricket at the start, putting on Tuns nt a good race, despite the closeness of the fight. In forty minutes they added as many runs, posting 300 in 367 minutes. Then a dangerous change came in the position of the teams. Oxenham, after making twelve in 64 minutes, was dismissed by a smart catch by Chapman. Soon afterwards Bradman, who had been batting confidently a fid brightly, was run out after making 58 in 138 minutes. Australia then wanted 21 and had Oldfield and Grimmett at the creases.
