“REAL KNOWLEDGE.” London. Jan. 7. “Why do we teach children arithmetic, geography music and drawing before teaching them how to live?” asks the Chief Medical. Officer to the Ministry of Health. Sir George Newman, in his annual report on the health of school children. “The supreme thing in man’s evolution.” says Sir George, “is true i-nnwlo , ’c'n vir- rpi-vice and vigilant care of the bodv, but. our ignorance nt present greatly exceeds our knowledge.” He urges the State to organise the medical and dental treatment of children after tlrnv leave school until the insurance scheme takes over the responsibility and suggests that mothercraft be taught to girls arid voung women as well as to expectant nursing mothers. He claims that although there were 8S 000 deaths last year of persons under .15 years Of age. 30,000 lives were saved; coin pared with 1922.
