So far as the official figures show tho unemployed problem in Dunedin is somewhat less disquieting than it was last week. The number of applications on the books of the Labour Department was then 310. Yesterday it was 245. During the week nine men were taken on by the Public Works Department, fourteen were given work by the corporation on the oval, six were assisted to the extent of giving them free railway fares and eighty-seven dropped out, having failed to call within a fortnight. On the other hand there were 54 new registrations.
