MOTOR DEATH LIST
LAST YEAR’S FATALITIES.
COMPARATIVE FIGURES. The City of Auckland heads the list of motor fatalities of 1928, with a total of 26, which is an increase of three over 1927. In the 14 urban areas of the Dominion, motor accidents resulted in 98 deaths last year. The fatalities in Wellington and Christchurch increased and Dunedin and Invercargill were tho only two centres to register decreases. Following are the totals for the last three years:—
In 1925, 61 fatalities occurred in the 14 centres. 22 being Auckland cases, 9 Wellington, and 8 Christchurch. In addition to the 98 motor deaths there were 38 other traffic fatalities last year. These were: 24 due to raildav accidents. 8 tramway accidents, and 6 deaths eaused through the use of horse vehicles. Half the deaths resulting from tram accidents occurred in Auckland.
