(Own Correspondent)

Mr. P. Griffin, of Wellington, has disposed of his interest in the Imperial Hotel, Waipawa, to Mr. Upton, of Palmerston, who takes possession in about a month’s time. Included in the list of successful candidates in the recent scholastic examinations are the names of the following pupils of the Waipawa District High School:—National Scholaiship and Junior Free Places: Mary Elizabeth Buchanan, Harold Alex Christensen and Pater Mercer; Matriculation, J. W. Baker, M; Hazel W. Hinman, M; G. I. Leigh, M; R. T. C. Williams, M. Accountancy: R. E. Knobloch, PP: L. H. Liddell, PP; R. A. Pethrick, BB; R. E. Mustchin. Comp. The latter results in particular reflect credit on the staff of the school, representing as they do 100 per cent, of candidates. The town _ is particularly favoured with swimming and bathing facilities in the local river this season, one pool near Coronation Park having a depth ranging from one to 10ft. This could be made more popular with a little attention given to the entrance of the Park. A. wedding of local interest was recentlv solemnised at Takaka, Nelson, when Cecil Leonard Pratley. of the G.P.0., Wellington, and third son of Mr. L. Pratley, of Waipawa. was married to Eileen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reilly, of Takaka. The Rev. Father Carmine was the officiating minister, and as an evidence of the popularity of the couple the whole of the social institutions of the town were largely represented, and at a reception held after the ceremony Father Carmine referred in eulogistic terms to the active interest Mr. Pratley had taken in local institutions. especially that Of the Band and Fire Brigade, and to the extreme popularity of both the bride and bridegroom. The happy couple, who left after the reception for a tour of the Hawke’s Bay and Auckland provinces. were the recipients of many valuable and useful presents and a sheaf of congratulatory telegrams.
