LIGHT SENTENCE ON ASSASSINATOR

ANTI-FRENCH DEMONSTRATIONS

The crowd demonstrated in the Palazzo Chini in honour of the Duce and knelt at the Waiter ’ Tomb and listened to a violent anti-French harangue. They returned to the Fascist headquarters and sang and shouted and waved banners until “igor Turati reappeared and gave the Roman salute. They next again attempted te reach the French Embassy and troops again barred the way. There were many scuffle : and romo arrests. Students in Naples similarly demonstrated* attempting to attack the consulate* shouting “Down with France.”

The French Government is concerned with the anti-French outbursts in Italy. It is considered as a matter for the Cabin t, after which a statement will be issued. Owing to repeated assassinations by foreigners in France severe measures wul be taken in future to watch political exiles in order to remove the intolerable abuse of French hospitality. It is pointed out that over a million Italians are at present in France, ineluding a great number of refugees from tho Fascist regime. A strong guard has been placed as a precautionary mensuro outside the Italian Bmbassy and Consulate. Press comments are restrained and express the hope that Signor'Mussolini, with a gesture will calm his countrymen. “L'lntrsnsigeant” admits that the French jury system needs overhauling.
