Speaking at the reception given to the Prime Minister in Wellington last Thursday evening, Mr. A. D. McLeou said that after thjrty-three years in political life he looked back on the record with some satisfaction. His one idea was that it was his duty to endeavour to make qjs native country better than he found it. This had been his honest endeavour, and lie had been fortunate indeed in having ns his leaders in Parliament such sterling men as the late Right Hon. W. F. Massey and the Right Hon. J. G. Coates, men honest, straight, and sincere, and imbued with the same desire as himself. He said that the Government would never do in the dark what it could not have done in the light.
