BRIGHTON TO LONDON
£3,000,000 SPEEDWAY APPROVED
Brighton (Eng.) Town Council has signified its approval of the proposal to construct a motor road speedway between London and Brighton. All that is necessary before construction can begin is that a special bill be passed by Parliament, and the necessary financial arrangements be made. The cost is estimated at £3,000,000. The object of the road is to provide direct access for the enormous traffic now passing between London and Brighton. The road 'is only for motor traffic, all of which will be required to pay toll fees of various amounts. Small motor-cars, for instance, will be asked to pay about 4fd, for the, whole journey. For motor omnibuses, 18 stops will be provided and there will be overhead footbridges for the use of inhabitants from adjoining villages who may wish to ioin them. Illumination of the road hv night is to be carried out by 25,000 coloured reflectors which are to he set up at intervals of 15 yards. If and when comnleted the road will be without parallel in Europe.
