Mr. J. Treneman, of Huvelock North, who has been on a visit to England, returned home last evening. The Hon. Thomas Mackenzie leaves London for New Zealand by the Remuera on November 23, states an A.P.A.—U.S. cable.

Mr. W. G. Parker M.A., who is proceeding to Wellington to be ordained at St. Paul’s Cathedral, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs F. S. Budd, of Hastings.

Mr. J. P. Kenny, secretary of the Napier Earbour Board, left Napier for Wellington this morning en route to America and the United Kingdom on an extended holiday.

The engagement is announced of Elizabeth Audrey (Betty), elder daughter of Mrs S. A. Moffatt, New York and grand-daughter of Mr. and Mrs N. Kettle, Napier, to Anthony X. D. Mayne, only son of the Very Rev. Dean and Mrs, Mayne, Napier.

Commendatore Michole Blunno, Royal Consul of Italy for New Zealand, advises that iris Government has appointed Cavaliere Giovanni Formichella, late of the Italian Con-sulate-General in New York to the Wellington post. Signor and Signorina Formichella are expected to arrive in Wellington about December 25. Signor Blunno will leave New Zeland for Italy next January, to report to headquarters.

Mr. J. H. W. Wardrop, who for the last few years has been chief clerk in the Lands and Survey Department. Nelson. * has retired on superannuation. Mr. Wardrop joined the Civil Service in 1887, being attached to the Mines Department a year later and from 1902 to 1911 was on the staff of the School Commissioners. In 1911 he again went to the Lands Department. During his long conection with the service, Mr. Wardrop has been stationed also at Wellignton, Christchurch, Napier and Gisborne.

Information has been received by the Ven. Archdeacon Williams, and >Mrs Williams, of Naurea, Gisborne, of the appointment of their son, the Rev. Nigel Williams, M.A., to a charge under the Bishop of Singapore His headquarters are to be at Telok Anson, at Perak, and he is to take up the work of the gospel among the planters and workers on the rubber plantations which occupy a considerable proportion of that state, while possibly his duties may require him to make occasional trips to the island of Sumatra. The appointment has l>ecn made under the programme of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, and at the request of the planters of Perak, who have built a handsome house for the minister and prepared a fitting welcome. He is about to land at Singapore, having left England a month ago, and will interview immediately the Bishop of Singapore.
