NAPIER HARBOUR BOARD

MONTHLY MTETING. CORRESPONDENCE. •The jnonthly meeting of the Napier Harbour Board was held in Napier yesterday. Present: Messrs A. E. Jull (chairman), N. P. Eriksen, 0. Nelson, J. E. Jones, J. S. McLeod, P. Higgins, P. W. Peters , G. F. Roach and'H. Anderson. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs J. J. Langridge, G. C. Lowe. J. C. Bryant, J. Vigor Brown and A. E. Goodger. J. Beatson wrote in connection with the reclamation of the Awatoto block, asking whether the board would be prepared to take the river through portion of his land in connection with the scheme.—The chairman pointed out that some years ago when it was proposed to make a cut into the Awatoto block to come through Mr Beatson’s property he objected. The board could have acquired it under the Public Works Act, but, as it was not desired to do that the cut was made further down. It was decided to inform Mr Beatson that the board could not accept the suggestion made. The Audit Department advised that, it would not raise any objection to the board making a remission of the charges incurred by the Union Co. when the Kakika called at the Breakwater on May 10 expressly to land a patient for the hospital from Portland Island. Richardson and Co., Ltd., wrote stating they had recently paid £32 lid for dredging in the vicinity of the Westshore slip, and they now asked the board to reconsider this charge seeing that the slip was used for ali small vesels and also that the dredging done could be viewed from the maintenance aspect as more silt lifted at that spot must end to improve the harbour.—The matter was referred to a committee consisting of Messrs Jull, Anderson and Higgins to consider and report to the board..
