After five years a member of tbo staff of the Balclutha Post Office ic eeived a pleasant surprise recently in the shape of the return through parcel post of a wallet and contents lost eight years ago in Dunedin. The sender of t!he parcel vouchsafed neither name nor address, but it was eviden that the brown paper packet containing the lost wallet had been posted at Dunedin, directed to the owner at Gore, where the postal official was formerly stationed, and re-directed from Gore to Balclutha. The wallet which contained five single pound notes, two railway tickets, and the of ficial’s discharge from the army and demobilisation certificate, etc., was lost on the evening of March 30, 1920, in the vestibule of the Princess Theatre, Dunedin. He did not discover his loss until back in his hotel after the performance. The theatre people were notified, but nothing was heard of the wallet or contents until their mysterious arrival. Naturally tbo owner is overjoyed, but the motives that actuated tho finder in keeping the wallet and money for eight yeais when the identity of the owner could have been ascertained at once, is a mystery to him.
