The outside of the course proper was open, also the steeplechase fences on the course. Don Jose easily defeated Crossbow over six furlongs in 1.17 2-5. Broadmoor sprinted half a mile in 51 3-ssec.

Gold Mint was going better than Lancer at the eud of seven furltags, taking 1.33. Quarterdeck covered seven furlongs in 1.32 3-5, Sudden Storm joining in for the last halfmile.

First Sight beat Nincompoop Over six furlongs in 1.18 4-5, and was going comfortably at the finish. Noteworthy and Blsox occupied 1.18 3-5 for six furlongs, the former doing his work well.

Passin 1 Through and Rangi Sarto covered seven furlongs in 1.37 3-5. Craiguiore and Umtali set out for a school over four hurdles. They bumped when rising to the second, Umtali losing his rider. Craigmore went on for the remainder alone ; giving a good exhibition. Umtali was produced again later and jumped four hurdles without a mistake,

Tarleton finished half a dor.en lengths in front of Brigadier Bill and Kilburn at the end of a mile, the last seven furlongs taking 1.35. Scrambler sprinted half a mile in 51 sec.

Quincoma finished four lengths in front of Erin-go-Bragh, with Pouri half a dozen lengths further back after running a mile in 1.49. The Viscount beat Corsiettere and Count Cavour over half a mile in 50 4-5.

Royal Game was restricted to an easy run over six furlongs. Fair Exchange beat Paper Boy over five furlongs in 1.5.

Chickwheat did half a mile in 53sec. Nine of Spades and No Response jumped four hurdles together. Nine of Spades, who showed to more advantage than his mate, went on over another flight by himsef.

Battle Colours and Meadow Lark were on terms at the end of six furlongs in 1.18 3-5. Amor was given a working gallop over seven furlongs, while Beau Geste and Pink Rose did similar work over six.

Wiltshire led Dubious and Radiate over a circuit of the steeplechase fences on the course. All jumped satisfactorily till they reached Cutts’ fence, where Wiltshire lost his rider and Radiate fell.

Red Fuchsia and Peneus gave a good display oyer six furlongs. Kalos galloped a mile but was not fully extended.

Kaiti beat Royal Lineage over six furlongs in 1.18. Taboo was restricted to an easy half-mile.

Marjoram and Zeuxis were companions in a half-mile sprint, run in 52secs. Beau Cavalier schooled once round the steeplechase fences on the course, jumping all in good style. He was ridden by Bowden, his Grand National pilot.

Ned Kelly and Amorist schooled over four hurdles. Amorist blundered at the second but otherwise both horses jumped well. Scion and Goldtown were companions over the schooling hurdles. After jumping six flights together Goldtown was pulled up, Scion doing two more alone. Scion easily held his mate but the pace was not fast.

• » • Hyperion went out to jump the schooling fences but lost his rider at the second and was not persevered with. Diana’s Lad showed to more advantage than Royal Land in a school over four huruies.

Martarma. with Tuahine over the last six furlongs, did a mile in 1.46 2-5. Solferite and Malmsey ran six furlongs easily in 1.21. • * • This morning’s arrivals from the North were: Panther, Historic, Roi de Vai, Royal Damon, Standard, Matu, Chelone and Atareria.
