HASTINGS TRACK NOTES & GOSSIP.

H, S. Greene returned from Gisborne with a two-year-old ’colt by Hunting Song from Kowerewere, therefore a half-brother to such good performers as Eleus, Koesian, Koodoo, and Company. The newcomer should be the makings of a fine cut of a horse. * * « Greene also brought back from Gisborne the Polydamon gelding Middleman—a rather mean performer so Jar. He will compete at the Point-to-Point next Saturday and it rests on that showing what his future will be. » * * Brown Sugar has resumed work, having thickened out during the spell. The Heather Mixture—Coincidence mare should be a useful hack performer this season.

Trainer P. Smith has recovered from the illness which laid him aside for the some weeks and although not attending the tracks is about superintending his stable.

Huikai’s trouble is not as serious as was first anticipated, and although there remains a slight swell‘ng.in his near fore joint, it is diminishing and a few weeks’ spell should see him Al again.

Merry Mint was on tho track on Tuesday for the first time for a long while. Since last raced he has grown into a big horse.

Tuesday morning saw the Hastings tracks busier than for some time, several point-to-pointers were exercised and those put over the steeplechase fences added much interest with their jjumping, falling, and 1 running off.

Keen was the first to work, running three furlongs in the good time of 38}secs. This gelding handled himself much better than previously.

Saturn and Mystum were sent over seven furlongs, taking 1.20 for the last six. Saturn is now a much improved horse than when he ran second to Patuki at the last Hunt meeting in June.

L’nder a good restraint Tresham ran the last five of six furlongs in 1.8. The Wellington-owned geiding is very well.

Royal Time, who is going better as the tracks become firmer, moved nicely over half a mile in 52Jsecs., but he was not out to make time.

Princess Elizabeth and Wedding Bells got to the end of three furlongs m 40secs. The former, who is a half-sister to Royal Damon, has a good style of galloping and should come good. * » »

Moa Bird, who continues to <io well, was given slow work. This mare thrives on a light preparation, requiring but very little galloping.

Hollycombe, Braeman and Sacramento: in that order, ran half a mile in 53 2-ssefs. ' Braeman is to be tried over country.

Trisogne and Imperial Fame (Crown Imperial—Miss Renown) pleased by running four furlongs in 51 4-ssecs.—a good effort. The pair finished abreast.

The Mug, looking light, <.nd ’he Psychology—Tatau Tatau filly ran over a few furlongs against the Lit. The latter shows much improvement and gives every impression nf racing up to her pedigree., •• » *

The only gallop on the course proper was that between Charmaline, Merry Damon and Gay Salute. The former two finished four lengths in front and registered 51 l-ssecs. Gay Salute undoubtedly has gone off this last two weeks and her track work is in keeping with her appearance.

A King Soult—Daunt-Tano mare four-year-old, over three furlongs, ran away from Law’s Road, fullsister to 'Frisco Jack.

Tea Tattle, in the smartest gallop of the morning, beat Roval Court over three furlongs in 37 l-ssecs. The former, a four-year-old Tea Tray —Bouvardia mare, despite a crooked leg. possesses an abundance of speed and as she has been in but a few weeks there is everv reason for considering she will prove up to open company over short courses.

Admiral Drake. Head Serang and an Arrowsmith—Wolaroa three-year-old, in an education run over three furlongs, took 42secs. Head Serang went well and is as good as any of our two-year-olds at present.

Primax. alone, over a few furlongs shaped pleasingly. Since coming in this time the Lord Quex three-year-old has grown into a striking horse and in appearance should be well able to foot all expenses.

Essential went over three fences, but the pace was so slow that it was difficult to determine his jumping ability.

Ponjola (Lewis), in running once round over the hurdles in 1.49, knocked a second off his Saturday’s time, and gives the impression of being on the improve. Timpouri (Lewis) gave a mixed exhibition of jumping over the hurdles and the country, shaping fairly.

Of the Pomt-to-Pointers, Damon, tho full brother to Matu, shaped the best of those tried.
