WAIPUKURAU COURT

SHEEP-STEALING CHARGE, ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. George Perry, a Waipukurau drover, arrested on July 23, by Detective Fitzgibbon (Hastings), on a charge of having on the 4th July, at Waipukurau, stolen 30 sheep, valued at £49 10/-, the property of James Wni. McNutt, fanner, Waipukurau, also on the same date at Waipukurau, 100 sheep, of the value of £lBO from Harry Singelton Hooper, “Arlington” Station; further, with stealing 35 sheep, of the value of £52 10/-, the property of Charles Twist, on or about March 19, 1928, at Marakeke, came before Justices of the Peace at ■Waipukurau, charged with the offences. Messrs R. McLean and W. A. Chambers, J.’sP., occupied the Bench. Mr. I. W. N. Mackie appeared for the accused. H, S. Hooper, in evidence, stated that he had identified sheen at Takapau as his. which should have been on his farm. The earmarks had not been touched. C. E. Twist, senior fat stock buyer for Borthwick’s Ltd., detailed a dispute his company had had with the accused and told of the loss of certain ewes. In evidence, J. W. McNutt gave details of finding certain wethers missing and later identifying them at Takap.au, Detective Fitzgibbon put in a statement made by the accused on arrest in which the thefts were admitted. The accused pleaded guilty, end was committed to the sitting of the Cupreme Court to be held in Napier on the 11th inst., for sentence.
