When the White Star liner Homeric arrived in dock at New York on June 13, her officers and passengers reported that while the ship was travelling at full speed the Saturday evening before she struck a whale. The passengers. w-ho were at dinner, felt a slight jar. and a quartermaster observed the whale’s body held fast by the steel bow. The engines were stopped, but it was not until they. were set full speed astern that the ship was abio to release her strange quarry. Cap tain Parker said that the whale was about 40ft long. He suggested that it was a youngster which had got astray from its mother’s care and had been asleep on the surface when it mot its death.’ Have eggs all the year round.
