"CHAIRMAN” OR "RED FORTUNE”

A QUEENSLAND RING-IN.

It will be -remembered that a week or two back mention was made of an enquiry that, was in progress by the stewards a' Queensland country racing club in connection with an allegation that, under the name of Red Fortune, the Waikato-brbd Nassau— Culross gelding Chairman had been “rung in” at their meeting. Newspaper files now to hand show that not only the owner-trainer, Sober Ward, but two others, E. J. M. Pegler, of Quilpie, and John M. Watson, junr of Thrylunga Station, who seem to have been implicated, were all disqualified for life. Evidence was given that on arrival at Sydney the horse Chairman, after being bought in New Zealand for 500 guineas, went into a Sydney trainer’s stable, was later sent to Bourke, and thence worked over to West Queensland, winning at several small meetings on tho way. It was also alleged that photographs of Red Fortune, at Charleville, were identified as being those of Chairman in New Zealand by the former owner of that horse. All the disqualified parties have given notice of appeal, which is to be heard oh the last day of the current month.
