ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

On Saturday night at 9 o’clock, a car, owned and driven by Dr. Hocken. of Hamilton crashed into a stationary car owned by R C. Bisgrove. Fenton street, Rotorua. Dr. Hocken received a facial cut and minor injuries. H. Allison, one of the occupants of Bisgrove’s car, received a ent on an eye which is not serious. The other occupants of both cars were unhurt. The ugpact was very severe, the stationary car being carried on to the footpath. Dr. Hocken's car, a heavynew Jorden, was badly wrecked. The other vehicle, a Buick coupe was also new and was much damaged.

A verdict of death from laceration of the brain was returned by the Coroner, Mr E. C. Levvy S.M., at the inquest at Gisborne this morning on Heremaia Tahunatai, aged 65, who died in hospital on July 29 as a' result of injuries sustained through a fall from a horse at Whangara the previous day.

A motor lorry went over Shaw’s Hill, at Morere. near Wairoa, dropping 200 feet. The machine was completely smashed, but the driver miraculously escaped injury.

A serious motor accident occurred on the main road between Foxton and Levin on Saturday. A lorry, owned by Robertson and Slade, contractors. Taihape, was proceeding towards Wellington, the latter driving, the other occupants being three of the firm's employees. Near Wirokino bridge, instead of taking a sharp turn, the lorry went over a bank, falling 12 feet and overturning. John Smart, aged 40. married, a hrieklaver. was so badlv iniured that he died almost immediately. Charles Harding,* aged 35, married, a labourer, was seriously injured and was removed to the Palmerston Hospital. Both men were riding behind the cab. The three others in the cab were uninjured.

Under circumstances suggesting that he had been kicked by a horse, Go*--don Hector Bissett. aged 3, was found in a horse paddock adjoining his fath er’a home at Dunedin with terrible head injuries from which he succumbed in Balclutha Hospital on Saturday. In a senior championship football match played at Opoutama on Satur day, Rupe Rangi a well-known Mahia footballer broke his leg and was taken to hospital.
