PRETTY FROCKS

AT GIRL GUIDE CONCERT, A most interested audience greeted those who appeared on the stage on Tuesday night in Napier for the concert to help the funds of the Girl Guides. People had motored to Napier from, in many instances, a distance of some 40 miles. At the end of the first half of the programme, a most popular item was the Cabaret Scene and Mannequin Parade. This item was cleverly carried out in quite professional style by well-known girls from Hastings, Napier and thereabouts, and the charming frocking throughout attracted admiring comment. The scene represented a cabaret, where dancers met and danced together to the strains of the Cabaret Orchestra. Then those dancing moved to various tobies, and sitting the»i watched the mannequins. There were six mannequins, and their frocks were specially noticed. Miss P. Nairn appeared in a “Letty” frock of black taffetas, made with a tight bodice and frilled skirt slightly longer at the back, each dainty flounce being edged with net. Miss Ruth Scannell was showing a blue floral ninon model, attractively designed with large yellow roses scalloped on the bands of yellow, and « tiny cape floated from the shoulders. Miss M. Nairn’s “Letty” frock was a particularly smart model of multitoned ring-velvet, cleverly cut with a drapery falling to one side of the uneven hem.

Hiss Hazel Chambers wore a very striking little American race frock of lettuce-green and white. The white waistcoatee was bound with green, and from the shoulder hung a little cape of the figured green material with white daisy design. Miss Marian Lowry was gowned in a simple but beautiful ivory georgette frock. From the shoulder fell a bow of ivory ring-velvet caught with a diamond pin, and the frock was enriched by a simple design embossed on it in ring-velvet. Miss True Wright was showing a very girlish and sweet frock of turquoise blue georgette, with pastel wool embroideries, ana a picture hat of the same blue with a large rose. The frocks had been kindly lent for the occasion by “Louisa,” of Market street, Hastings Very dainty were the- dancers arranged by Miss Leslie Williams. These were: Misses B. Menzies, E. Barry, Lois Caro, B. Inglis, J. Campbell, M. McKay, A. Anderson, B. Moffat, M. Vautier.' All wore bright and very effective evening frocks, and this item was greatly enjoyed. Another feature of the eveiling was “A Fair Encounter,” a nlay cleverly acted by Mrs H. S. Hindmarsh and Miss Una London, who held the attention of the audience and created much mirth. As a result of the entertainment £35 was realised for the funds of the Girl Guides in Napier.
