TO REMOVE STAINS

When delicate fabrics get stained with tea or coffee, try dabbing the marks with a little glycerine. Leave thia on for an hour or two, then sponge it with warm water. When rubbing a stain or mark begin from the outside. Mark a wet ring all round the spot, an inch away from it, then gradually dab the mark from the outside to the centre. This prevents the mark spreading, as it does when attacked from the centre first. Rub iron mould marks thoroughly with lemon juice, and let this dry in the fresh air. Repeat if necessary. Another method is to put suit on the marks, first having damped the material, then squeeze on lemon juice, and spread the article on the grass in the sun. Sea-Water stains can be removed from dark blue or black material'! with vinegar. Apply with a piece of Baine material, working with a circu-

lar movement. To remove them from shoes rub well with a mixture of washing soda and warm milk, then polish in the usual way. To remove tar stains from white stockings, gloves or clothes, rub well with fresh butter, then wash in a warm soapy lather. If the stains are on white shoes, rub first with fresh butter, then with ammonia. Apply the ammonia with a soft rag, beginning at the outside of each stain and working with a circular movement towards the centre. Fruit stains can be removed thus: Rub over the affected parts with a cloth wrung out in hot water, to which a little ammonia has been added. Afterwards press with a hot iion over a damp cloth. Grass stains can be i emoved from white materials by first sponging with cold water, then sprinkling with a mixture of equal parts of salt mid tartaric acid. When quite dry remive the powdpr .with a soft brush.

If the material is coloured apply pure glycerine to the stains, wash with warm water, then in a warm soapy lather.
