HASTINGS TRACK NOTES & GOSSIP.

Th© diminutive filly Charmalin© who, on the tracks, has shown an abundance of speed but on account of his size has suffered during the running of her races, may in the near future be taken to Australia, where the midgets are specially catered for.

Although the majority of local horses engaged at Gisborne have returned home sufficient have remained behind for the Poverty Bay Hunt meeting (Saturday) to cause local interest.

In tho Hunters’ Hurdles. 1| mile, lOst. 71bs. minimum, Ballyfarnon (12.12) has a big load, but it must bo admitted he has earned every pound of it. Useful hurdler that he is he will find Inner Harbour (a very fast jumper) with 11.1 a tough nut to crack. These two may monopolise the betting.

There is not a vei-y flash lot engaged in the Hack Hurdles, Ij miles, in which Crishna is our only representative with any form. Jen last week ran a fair race but petered out over Ij miles, so over the extra distance does not appeal. Crishna and Royal Heather look life furnishing the favourites. Comedy Prince, if in the mood, may upset calculations. * • «

In the open mile last Saturday Pale Star received a shocking run, but in the Hexton Handicap, 1J miles, the Hastings gelding may start as well backed as Princess Ronnie or Othon.

The Fergusson Gold Cup Hunt Steeples, 2} miles, sees the Paki Faki gelding Progressor the only local horse engaged. Master Arch and Highway have been galloping well, and may be the favourites.

Abisogne is in the first division of the Swathmoor Trial, 5 furlongs, but will find stiff opposition from Bold Front and Seamstress. This trio probably will be the favourites. In the second division Kinsel. Master Cynic and Eostra may carry most money.

Night "Wifcli and Plimmerton will draw local interest in tho Rapanui Hack, 7 furlongs. Tea Lady, King Willonyx, and Night Witch, on recent form, may cany most money.

No Hastings horse is engaged in the Ladies' Bracelet, hut First Prince, now owned by Mr. Geo. Graham, of Napier, is the next best thing, and as the field is hardly up to w.f.a. form the above gelding may in consequence entice support from here. The favourites may he First Prince, Highway and Chipchase.
