A HAPPY BIRTHDAY PARTY
A number of the friends of Mr and Mis Jack Carr, of Hastings, assembled last Saturday evening to celebrate the anniversary of the host’s birthday, and a most happy and enjoyable time was spent by all present. A presentation of a small memento to mark the happy occasion was made by Mr E. Moffatt, who, in a few well chosen words indicated the esteem with which both the host and the hostess are held in this town. Mr Carr suitably responded. Toasts were then proposed by Msesrs Moffatt, Anderson, Langley, Powell, Mersen, Neagle, W. Hart, Willie Ryder and others. Appreciated items were rendered by Misses F. Powell and D. Langley, Mesdames Neagle and Carr, Messrs Macklow, Langley, and Powell, The opening effort was a clog dance by Mr Willie Ryder, and Mr Macklow’s artistic rendering of “The Peal of the Organ,” followed by Mr Langley's recitation, “The Groom.” A quaint “Lancashire Song” in dialect, by the hostess, was much appreciated, also Miss Powell’s monologue, “The Whistle.” After the supper interval the newly-formed Hastings Minstrels obliged with a number of glees and folk songs, and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought the happy gathering to a close.
