INTOXICATED MOTORIST
A WOMAN INJURED. YOUNG-MAN HEAVILY FINED. Auckland, June 23. Clive Horace Parr aged 28, was fined £25 by Mr F. K. Hunt, 8.M., in the Police Cc-urt, for being indicated while in charge of a motor car in Karangahape road late yesterday afternoon. Sub-Inspector McCarthy stated that, while passing a vehicle on the right, the accused had gone w near the edge of the footpath that lie had knocked over a woman who was standing on the kerb waiting for a tram. The woman had not been seriously injured and had been sent to her home. The accused had got out of his car and had walked back and spoken to her. He returned to his car and was driving away when he was stooped and asked for his license. It was thou noticed he was intoxicated. Counsel for the defence said that the accused had yesterday afternoon motored in from Kawhia and bad omy two drinks. He was a roading contractor, working in the neighbourhood of Kawhia. He had to drive a motor lorry in the course of his work. The Magistrate said he would take the latter fact into consideration and not cancel the accused’s license, tlo warned him not to come before the Court a second time and to leave drink alone. The accused was allowed a week to pay.
