ST. LUKE’S PARISH SOCIAL. The St Luke’s Parish social held in the Village Hall last, night was a great success, in spite of the weather over a 100 persons were present. The stage was set out as a drawingroom, with rugs easy chairs, etc., and nicely decorated. A song was given by Canon Maclean and two duets by four Woodford House teachers. Dancing, community singing and round games also were enjoyed. Before the supper, Canon Maclean presented Mr H. Speight, on behalf of the parishioners with a handsome cheque, with which, ss Canon Mac. lean said, went their very best wishes. Mr Speight had proved himself a firstclass citizen. He was taking up church work in Hastings ana was about to be ordained as a layman and afterwards as a priest. The warmest good wishes went out to Mr and Mrs Speight and Miss Speight in the new life they were taking up. Mr A. Toop, on behalf of the Fire Brigade, thanked Mr Speight for his valuable services to the brigade, which they appreciated very much.’ They were sorry he would not be there to help them with their bazaar but wished him good luck in his new calling. He handed Mr Speight a gold-mounted fountain pen, suitably engraved as a memento from the brigade. Mr Speight, suitably replied, thanking everyone for the gifts, which ho greatly appreciated. Supper followed which was enjoyed by all. and after Sir Roger de Coverly and the sining of “Auld Lang Syne,” the first church social was brought to a close by the National Anthem. PRESBYTERIAN BIBLE CLASS SOCIAL. Tho usual fortnightly social of the Havelock North Presbyterian Church Young People's Bible Class was held last night. The outstanding item of the evening was the reading of a play by Miss Stollery entitled “Peg o’ My Heart.,’’ which was listened to with rapt attention. Games followed under the direction of Mr Phil Graham.
