Rain interfered with the cricket matches and there was no play the first day at Horwick, Northampton, Cambridge, or Oxf.'ord. Two days were missed at the Oval, where Surrey met Sussex. Derby in the first innnings made 295—Bowden 56, Townsend not out 52, Mclntosh took 4 for 55. Oxford University in the first innings made 149—Lee took 5 for 42—and followed on, making 123 for 4. The game was drawn. The West Indies in the first innings made 49—BemdSmore took 5 for 37. Norfolk in the first innings made 123 for 9 wickets. The match was drawn. Worcester in the first innings made 225 and in the second 176—Jewell 93; Hearn took 5 for 66. Middlesex made 436 for 7 and declared—Lee 143, Hearne 51, Hendren none out 101, Root took 5 for 129. Middlesex won by an innings and 35 runs. Gloucester in the first innings made 174—Freeman took 5 for 72—and in the second 239 —Sinfill 60, Hammond 60. Kent made 476 for 6 and declared—Harding not out 263, Woolley 107. Kent won by an innings and 66 runs. Northants in the first innings made 164—J. Timms 70; Rhodes took 5 for 37—and in the second made 50 for 3. Yorkshire in the first innings made 149—Thomas took 5 for 41. Nnrthnnts won on the first innings. Cambridge University, in the first innigs, made 117—S. Staples took seven for 44—and in the second 106— Staples took five for 37. Notts in the first innings made 139 —Carr 55, Blundell took six for 51—and in the second 85 for 3. Notts won by seven wickets Sussex made 139 for four and declared —Bowley not out 52. Surrey made 82 for two. The match was drawn. This does not count for the championship.
