HASTINGS ASSOCIATION WEDNESDAY GAMEf UNITED y. KARORI A. In the hockey match between Karori A and United yesterday United won the toss and defended the eastern goal. From the bully-off Karori were soon into their stride, per medium of Grenside. their forward line carrying the ball into United’s circle, where Heighway cleared by a long shot up field. How. ever, the relief was only temporary, Kellett, Schroder, Grenside and Rouse bringing the ball right up to United’s goal-mouth but good work by Heighway sent them back to their own twenty-five. United's halves were playing out of their places several times, thi 5 mistake on their part allowing the fast Karori forwards an open field which was seen taken advantage of and two goals were scored in quick succession. One more goal was added shortly before half-time was sounded. On changing over, United made several alterations to thei r team, and the second spell was crowded with exciting play United were combining better. Greaves showing up in some good team work. United made several vain attempts to score, but good defensive play on the part of Church and Green kept them out. Karori now took up an attack, Kellett, on the wing, taking the ball wel] down field before centring and United failing to clear. anothe r goal was added to Karori’s score. Play now took a turn in favour of United, hut a good chance to score was spoilt by hard hitting. From the bully in United’s twenty-five Karori here took possession of the ball and went right through the opposing backs to score Karori’s fifth goal. After give and take play for about five minutes, United were awarded a free hit from which Greayes scored United’s only goal, time sounding shortlv afterwards. Messrs Matthews and Shattky refereed. RAMBLERS (2) v. KARORI B (2). The above two teams met for the first time this season and it was the most interesting game of the first round. Fnm the bully-off and a breach of the rales given against Ramblers Hay found the net. Play then became harder and Karori from a scramble in the circle. Fannin found the net. From then on the Ramblers settled down to hard work and, from a free hit given against French. McNab got control and found the net, evening the score for the day. Until the call of time the game was very even. McNab was either over-eager or else careless as he missed several chances, otherwise the game would have been more in Ramblers’ favour. For the Ramblers the following were the nick: Tritt G. Lawson, Russell, F. Heighway, Symonds and Crawford. The best players for Karori B were French. Terrace Clifton. Stitt and Bootie. Both teams went on the field with one man short. Messrs Startup and Lewis controlled the game. HASTINGS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. WEEKLY MEETING. The weekly meeting of the above was held in Mr. Johnson’s shop last evening, when a full attendance of delegates was present. Mr. Lewis occupied the chair. It was proposed to enter three men’s teams for the June 4th tournament. It was also decided to enter a challenge to Wairoa through the H.B. Hockey Association for the Manuere Shield. The matter of selectors was held over- until the next meeting.
