H.B. ORCHARDIST’S ENTERPRISE. DIAMONDS IN EXCHANGE FOB APPLES. An orchardist of Havelock North who keeps in close touch with the possibilities of marketing fruit in countries outside Great Britain and South America, has, we learn, this season shipped the whole of his crop of apples to Vienna. This, we understand, is not the first time he has exploited this market, his returns from test shipments in the past season were so gratifying that this season at least 1200 cases are being forwarded, and it is stated that the returns are sufficient to make the average orchardist’s mouth water. The difficulties of currency in dealing with this country are ingeniously overcome by converting the money received for the fruit into precious stones which enter this Dominion duty free, and can be sold at considerably more than they cost in Austria.
