In the Magistrate’s Court at Christchurch, Patrick Moore, aged 38, pleaded guilty to eight charges of breaking and entering various houses early this month and committing theft. The police said the accused travelled round as a tinker. To gain entrance he broke the leadlights over the doors or windows and then loosed the catch. In all, he had taken £lOO worth of goods an<l jewellery from eight houses. He was caught in the act at a Sydenham house Accused was committed for sentence: no bail was applied for.— Press Assn. The most spectacular fire that has occurred at Whakatane for years completely destroyed the R.M Garage last evening. The building, which was a large wooden one. contained six cars, all of which were destroyed together with stocks of tyres, oils and tools. The brigade made a good save of the adjoining buildings. The cars owned by the R.M. Comnany, the Inspector of Machinery, Sargood, Son and Ewen and E. W. Beckett wero insured, but those owned by Ruddy and Slonno, and Peagram were uninsured.
