GUN PLAY
CASHIER OBEYS RULES. TWO BANDITS SHOT. Portland (Oregon), Jan. 19. Arthur Dermest was yesterday promoted from assistant to head casuicr at the Scott Bank. Ho celebrated the event in the even ing by reading the rules for the new job and discussing them with his wife. The printed instruction advised cashiers to have efiicieut weapons handy in case of hold-ups, so Deroniest marched to the bunk this morn ing with a loaded hunting ride over his arm. His third customer after the open ing hour was a bandit, who ordered everyone into the vault while he pro seeded to sweep £5OO into a gunysack. Demorest shot him through the hearty and his second bullet killed the robber's companion. The remainder of the gang out side the bank fled in a motor car. while the cashier emptied his magazine in their wake.
