SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Friday. Present —Messrs Anderson (chairman) Cooper and Caskey and the headmaster. The headmaster’s report stated that the attendance for the month had been seriously affected-by mumps aad whooping cough, as many as 70 children being affected at one time. The school had been visited by Mr Boland, the Board’s architect, and the opportunity had been taken to point out various items requiring attention. Most of the new library books had arrived and these had been covered and indexed by the children. The library now contains nearly 900 books, some of which are being used as class' readers.

The committee discussed the arrangements for the fancy dress ball, and the matter of additional improvements to the school grounds. In regard to the former it was decided to circularise the ladies of the district for contributions for the supper and to make arrangements to secure the services of a first class orchestra for the dance music. Various competitions for the fancy dresses were arranged and details discussed to ensure the function being up to the high standard set in previous years.

On Friday next September 9 tho fortnightly social and dance will bo held in the school. The committee has arranged for Mr Wi Kani to supply the music so that dancers can rest assured of a pleasant evening. Tho euchre will be under the capable charge of Mr Cooper, whttst the energetic ladies of the committee will ensure a good supper being served. Good prizes have been obtained for the euchre and for the Monte Carlo waltzing competition. The Boy Scout movement in this district is still making steady progress under the leadership of Mr Bateman, and the boys are looking forward to the summer months and the accompanying of camps and the like.
