MEETING OF HAWKE’S BAY BOARD

lEPORTS ON VARIOUS MATTERS

The monthly meeting of ’.he Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board was held this morning, when Mr J. A. Miller occupied the chair. Other members present were Messrs G. Purvis. T Donovan, W. G. Jarvis, W. W. Smart, C. F Hellyer. J. MacDonald, G Latham, and H R Clark The chairman stated that the matter of the board’s application for a loan to repair flood damage was under consideration by the Government The loan was for £7285. and when the Government's reply came to hand, the sub committee set up to go into the Question would prepare a re port lor the board.

Relative to the appointment of a committee to investigate river schemes, the chairman stated that he had discussed the matter with Mr Furkert, who hud approved of the suggestion, and that the matter would be riven prompt attention.

The committee set up to go into the question of the repairs to the Tutaekuri overflow slop-banks Had accepted the tender of £3OO forwarded by M Lane for repairing the breaches. THE MONTH’S WORKING.* The overseer (Mr P Scullin) reported having fenced and cut battens ror the boundary fence at Papakura. Fencing. planting, clearing and igging down bank work had been done at Puketapu and Moteu. Planting had been done at Taradale. Mee anee, and clearing from Puketapu to Meeanee. Ten chains of fences had been put in, and plaintmg done to protect a bank from erosion at Rov's Hill. Work on Muddy Creek dam had been completed, while near the mouth on the south bank at Ngaruroro protective work to prevent erosion had been accomplished. Fasenes had been put in near the erosion at Anderson's Bend, at Clive, and also near the Grange bridge over \the Tuki Tuki. Five chains of protective work had been completed nt Te Mata, on the Tuki Tuki. Owing to showery weather, conditions had not been good for scooping between Fernhill and Pakowhai to Raupare. but fairly good progress had been made. The contract let for removal and re-erection of a fence at Waitangi had been started, as had been the contract to repair breaches in the banks at Papakura.
