Miss Betty Nuthall, who. though lhe youngest competitor distinguished herself at the Wimbledon lawn tennis tournament this season, has reached the fourth round of the American women’s singles championship. When play opened yesterday, all the British players were still in the championship. which has never yet been won by an Englishwoman, but after Miss Nuthall had won the opening match of the day against Miss Penelope Anderson, of Virginia, all her countrywomen were beaten. Miss Nuthall's victory takes the girl champion of England into the last eight.
