DIVOTS.

(Dug bv “The Delver.”)

On Friday next acceptances will fe taken both for the first dav of the Wanganui J.C.’s Meeting and for the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club’s fixture.

The halEbrother. by Lackham. to Degage has been given a name —Roi do Vai.

As a recognition of his services to the Manawatu Racing Club. Mr J. R. L, Stanford has been elected a life member of that body.

It is intended to try Tarleton as a hurdler at th© coming spring meetings in . the South Island. This should surely be about the last chance given the disappointing Nassau gelding of redeeming his reputation. His connections deserve credit for persistence, if for nothing else. The public must long since have become sick of the repeated promises made on his behalf. Mand'arene, who is one of the Trentham representatives ia the New Zealand Cup. is not yet out of hacks and, worse than that, is not even among th© top weights in hack class.

In speaking yesterday of Simper’s many and various matings, omission was made of her last year’s love. Mr J. D. Ormond’s Sunstar horse Araasio. to whom she is now in foal. Her proposed union with Chief Ruler will thus make her seventh dip in the connubial luckv bag.

The three-year-old Prince Paladin, who ran second to Royal Lineage in the Cashmere Plate was priced recently and it is understood that 1000 gns was quoted.

* # * In spite of the fact that the Spring Meeting dates ot the A.R.C. and

C.J.C. are now well apart, only four horses from the Auckland province have been accorded a nomination in the New Zealand Cup—Desert Glow, Phaola. Nippy and Eden Hall.

* # » An Auckland exchange says that the Okawa-bred Lord Quex —Symbolism gelding Brampton has grown into a very solid-looking customer, and is working well at headquarters. He will not be required to race iust awhile, and although his name figures among the horses engaged in the Avondale Guineas he is not likelv to contest that event.

Like most of those who have preceded him in Air W. H. Ballinger’s ownership. Royal Game, who had a strenuous time in the season iust closed, is apparently not to have much of a let-up. He was meed at Riccarton, and is now amone the entries for Wanganui. Wanganui, however, is one of the courses that should suit him. as he is smart out of the barrier, and the small course with its many turns will be all in his favour.

Atareria, who was purchased hv Mr W. H. Gaisford during the Auckland Summer Meeting of last season has been entered for a sixfurlong hack race at the EgmontWanganui Hunt Meeting. The Aussie-bred Rossendale fielding had nine starts last season, and managed to win only one event, the Waipa Stakes: but as he is now onlv a four-year-old he has time to improve.

Mr Charles Boyle of Wellington, has decided upon Sungift as a name for his filly by Australian Sun. The filly, which is said to bo one of the best-looking ever landed here from Australia, has been at Hawera under the care of O. Cox since soon after her arrival in the Dominion. Sun gift has been sprinted, and is said to have shaped very well indeed—so well that she has enhanced the reputation her looks ensured for her • • • F. FliH. says the Christchurch “Star,” has left for Hawke’s Bay with the Paper Money—Christmas Rose mare Paper who is to be mated with Mr T. 11. Lowry’s Psychology. The first of the progeny of this Tracery horse will race this season. Amourette who is one of Mr G. Gerrard's two-vear-old» at

Riccarton is a promising daughter of Psychology, and doubtless this fact was responsible for him being chosen ag the mate for Paper Rose

Special reference was made at the anuual meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club on Thursday to the excellent services rendered bv the retiring president. Mr C. Louisson. In addition to the eulogistic remarks made bv several of the members, furthei evidence of appreciation hf his good work was forthcoming in the fact that he was re-elected unopposed.

At the same time the secretary of the club. Mr J. M. Johnston, came in for a special vote of thanks. The president said all recognised his capabilities and that his services were invaluable to the club, while Mr J. P. Innes added that Mr Johnston had thg interests of t'jc club verv miigh at heart, and. while he appeared hard at times, it was all for the benefit of the club. * • * Word is said to have been received in Wellington that all is not well with Roscrea. a member ot the team taken to Australia bv the Riccarton trainer. F. 1). Jones It is hoped that the trouble will not be serious, but time alone decides those nuestions. Roscrea is a half-brother, bv Rossendale. to Limerick and Ballvmena, so is highlv valuable

and ii will be a great pitv if he does not stand training. He is the bestlooking of the line at his age. and his trainer had a big opinion of him when he sailed for the other -'de with his team.

As a result of increasing weight, A. Tinker now finds his opportunities for riding limited and besides a 10ckey’s license he has also taken out a trainer’s license this season. He has already made a start as 11 trainer at Te Rapa, where he is Working a couple of two-vear-olds. bv Nassau—Deniana and bv Valkyrian Gravitation mare respectively, and the four-year-old mare Mervette. Further additions to the team Will be made this week, when that promising hunter Glendowie and a three-vear-okl gelding by Archiestown—Ladv Lila will go into his charge.

The New Zealand Eclipse Stakes, to be decided on the second dav < f the Wanganui Meeting G run at weight-for-age, without penalties, over a distance a trifle beyond -even furlongs The weights to be carried under the scale are therefore as follow Reremoana. Star Stranger. Grand Knight, Beacon Light 9.3; Joy King. Lysander 9.0; Civility. Degage 8.12; Gascony Great Charter. Thaw, Laughing Prince Paleta, Tn the Shade 7.12: Damaris. Ladv Limond 7.7.
