PERSONAL NOTES.

Mrs Olphert, who has been staying with Mrs. Tennant in Napier, returned this week to her home at the Lower Hutt. Mrs. Keith Thorburn left this week to stay with her sister, Mrs. Cowper, or Dannevirke. Much sympathy is expressed for Mrs Gray, of the Central School teaching staff, who slipped last week while supervising basket ball, and broke her wrist.

Mr, and Mrs. W. Lean, of Hastings, sailed by the Maheno on the 19th August for a tour of Australia, including in their itinerary the new Federal capital Canberra.

Miss Bullow, of Queenswood School, (eaves on Wednesday for Dunedin, where she will attend the headmistresses’ conference to be held there.

Mr and Mrs Newbigen, of Hastings, accompanied by their daughter, Mrs. Norman Beatson, have left for a holiday in Auckland.

Mrs. W. Z. Preston-Thomas ■is staying in New Plymouth with her mother, Mrs. Courtney.

Mrs Elmslie Reid, of Waipukurau, left by the Maheno for Sydneyi

Miss Lockart, of Auckland, is the guest of Miss M. Edgar, in Napier.

Miss Violet Cotton is staying in Napier, on a holiday from her art studies m Wellington.

Miss Beryl Sanderson, of Glenross is in the south on a holiday.

Mr. and Mrs. A. Lean, of Hastings, motored through to Wellington/ in order to be present at the N.Z. basket ball tournament to be played in Wellington on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Miss Lindsay, of the staff of the Queenswood School, is spending the term holidays in Waipawa.

Mr .and Mrs. Audrey Humphreys, who used to reside in Napier, and who have been for some years in America, are staying in Napier at the present time.

Mrs. Baker, who has been staying in Hastings with her sister, Mrs. Rowe, left on Friday for her home in Dannevirke

Miss True Wright, of “Apley,” left yesterday by the mail train for Wellington.
