DEBUTANTES OF 1875 & 1927.
PRESENTATION AT COURT. CEREMONY MUCH SIMPLIFIED.. JT appears that being presented at Court is quite an ordeal, with weeks of preparation beforehand for the event; yet compared with the same event in Queen Victoria’s time, a presentation at Their Majesties’ Court to-day is as mild as a tea-party.
The Marchioness of Aberdeen and Temair has written some interesting reminiscences for a London newspaper of her “ordeal” as a debutante of 18 being presented to Queen Victoria. In those days the poor “deb” who had only emerged from the schoolroom a few weeks before and was unaccustomed to long dresses, had now to tackle not only a voluminous evening dress, but also a long and solid train about three yards
