NAPIER SHOPPING WEEK
REPORT ON PROGRESS MADE WELL ATTENDED MEETING. There was a good attendance of those interested in Napier’s shopping week campaign at a meeting held last evening, when Mr. H. WardellJohnson occupied the chair. The chairman reported that the council had decided to suspend he work going on in the repairing of the Hastings street footpath during the shopping week. He expressed iegret that the community lighting scheme had not been finalised as the Harbour Commission had occupied the Borough Council to such an extent that an opportunity had not been available lor a denutation to approach it. However, it was hoped that there would be something definite in hand before 'Xmas.
The chairman made an appeal to shopkeepers to light their premises at night and to keep them lighted until at least 10 o’clock The Merchants' Association wrote forwarding £3 toward the cost of prizes in the women’s and children's races.—The secretary reported that other firms had signified their intention of making donations.
It was decided to again carry out the “Sunshine and Business, give me that pound’’ competition under the previous year’s rules. The council is to he asked to allow for the large lights on the Marine Parade to be lighted every night.
