CANADIAN FRUIT SUBSIDY.
A decision to spend £BOOO annually for five years to develop the Canadian apple market lias been readied at a conference at Toronto of representatives of the Canadian Horticultural Council, of the Governments of the fruit-growing provinces, and of fruitgrowers’, shippers’ and jobbers’ associations. The Departments of Agriculture in the affected provinces will be asked to contribute 50 per cent, of the fund.
An offer by the Federal. Government to contribute on the same basis to a fund to advertise Canadian apples in Great Britain has been accepted by the conference, provided that a decision be first obtained to enforce the Federal inspection of all export shipments of fruit, and to enforce the British Merchandise Marks Act before incurring any expenditure on advertising.
