SHEEPFARMERS’ FEDERATION
MEETING OF COUNCIL. RESOLUTIONS CARRIED. Wellington, Aug. 23. The Council of the New Zealand Sheepowners’ and Farmers’ Federation held its annual meeting to-day. Officers elected were:—President, Mr. H. D. Acland (Christchurch); vice-president, Mr. W. G. Sherratt (Poverty Bay); hon. treasurer, Mr. E. Hay (Canterbury); hon. auditor, Mr. A. A. McKellar.
It was unanimously resolved that the Government be asked to expedite a revaluation of land, as the position to-day is that the departmental valuation has in many instances proved to be far above the producing value of the land.
Further, it was resolved that the Board of Research be asked to investigate the possibility of manufacturing wool packs from New Zealand hemp; that the proposed amendment to the Stock Act be approved, and that Cabinet be asked to bring the amendment before Parliament this session; that the thanks of the Federation bo recorded for the loyal work of Dr. Reakes on a long period of years ii> the interests of sheep-farm-ers, and that the conference wishes him a successful visit to the research conference in Great Britain. It was also decided to request the Governmeirt to take steps to destroy keas on Government reserves.
