THEFT OF A SHEEP
FOUR MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT. The charge that faced Alexander McLean at the sitting of the Napier Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon was that on August 20 at Riverbend road, Awatoto. he did steal one sheep, valued at £1 5/-, the property of William Alexander Cummings. He was alternatively charged with receiving stolen goods, to wit. a sheep value £1 5,'- and knowing same to be stolen property, Senior-Detective Butler carried out the prosecution, while the accused, who pleaded not guilty, was not represented by counsel. After hearing the evidence His Worship declared himself satisfied that the accused had been guilty of the theft and sentenced him to four months’ imprisonment.
