MATCH WITH VICTORIA. NEW ZEALAND WINS EASILY. Brisbane, Aug. 22. The New Zealand hockey team defeated a strong Victorian combination at a hockey carnival at the Exhibition this morning by eight goals to nil. The New Zealanders played a hard game throughout. Penalties wore awarded against them, from which, however, their opponents failed to score. In the second spell, as on Saturday, the visitors settled down to a steady combination and towards the end of the game the Victorians were visibly tired, although they tried valiantly to stop the rout. Bell was a prolific scorer for New Zealand. Hougu play was frequent. The visitors played a splendid attack mg game, Dole feeding the forwards admirably. Prom the outset the New Zealanders pressed strongly, play immediately going to the Victorians’ end. At half-time the New Zealanders were leading by two to nil. Of the total of eight goals, Bell scored four, seccombe, who also played a fine game, scoring two, Spiers one and Watts one. Although he had comparatively an easy one, Fletcher, in the goal, showed he is an excellent custodian. .WEDNESDAY GAMES. Lovers of a real good game of hockey are invited to come along to Cornwall Park to-morrow afternoon and see the final games of the competition for the Harvey Cup played for. The two leading teams, Karon and Ramblers, with only one point each dividing them, will meet for the last time this season. The present holders are Karori and the Ramblers are putting in a strong defence so lovers of the game should not -miss thia chance. Another good game to be played will be between Unite! and Cambridge. The association are to be congratulated on the way hockey has taken on this season, They are taking up a small collection to mor row to defray expenses so now all they want is tue public to come along in large numbers.
