ENGINEERS’ STRIKE
CONDITIONAL RESUMPTION OFFERED. (Received 23, 10.25 a.m.) Sydney, Aug. 23. The engineers agreed to return to work conditionally on all strikers being reinstated to their former positions. Tho men were influenced by the fact that Judge Beeby refused to hear their application for a variation of the award until work was resumed. MORE COMPLICATIONS. (Received 23, 11.25 a.m.) Sydney, Aug. 23. The position of the metal trades in Victoria is further complicated by complaints of the men that foremen employed in the engineering works have been engaged in preparing tools for the use of other employees. As this work, it is claimed, has always been done by the strikers it has been resolved that members of all unions be instructed to refuse to handle any tools prepared by foremen. If this decision is given effect to it is believed that many members of other unions will become involved immediately.
