LATE FOR EVERYTHING
NEW YORK’S MAYOR IN LONDON NOT A “HUSTLING AMERICAN.’’ (Received 23. 1.25 p.m.) London, Aug 22. The visit of the Mayor of New York to England has shattered every illusion regarding the “hustling American.” He has made it plain that an absolutejv outstanding American can be late for everything Thus far he has kept everybody waiting up to two hours, but his real triumph came when he decided to go to bed at 10.30 in the morning in. stead of going to Killarney. A special train had been ordered and stood cooling its wheels at the station while an assembly of distinguished peonie stood looking at each other. The Mayor went to bed and Killarney was not visited. Later he returned to London nnd awoke an hour after the train reached the city. He decided to visit the town, late as usual, and const<<iuently was late for a luncheon apnointment. The “Daily Express” comments that it used to be said that “punctuality was Hie politeness of 'princes,” but “possibly missinp minutes makes manners for Mayors.”—(A. and N.Z )
