At the Darlinghurst sessions the trial was commenced of McCarthy and Mattersob in connection with the Gathered Gold case. Matterson, in a statement in the dock, said the mare was Gathered Gold. He had bred her and she had had neve: been outside of Australia. McCarthy, in a statement, said it was ridiculous lor the prosecution to suggest that Promenade had been rung in on Australian courses, and added that if Gathered Gold was really Promenade it would have been impossible to stop her winning races, as her time for the mile was 2.11, while Gathered Gold, when she won her best race, did the mile in 2.24.
