PETROL TAXES.
Petrol taxes in the United States yielded nearly £40,000,000 in 1926. This is about £2 per vehicle per year. The taxes in the 44 States varied from 1 cent, to 5 cents, the average being 2.3 cents. New Zealand consumed 44,000,000 gallons of petrol in 1926, and a tax at the American rate would yield over £184,000 a year.
