AMATEUR TITLE FINAL SESSION STARTED. Wellington, Aug. 19. In the first session of the final of the New Zealand amateur billiards championship at the Federal Club tonight. Freeman, the Federal player, secured a lead of 280; playing a sound, consistent game, scoring on most of his visits and compiling quite a lot of useful breaks up to 33 Roberts, for 99 visits to the table, made but 388 points, while Freeman, for the same number of visits, scored 868. Freeman’s average was 6.76 and Roberts 3.8. In the latter stages of the session Roberts made 33 visits for 126. Breaks: Freeman, 25, 25, 31, 21, 20, 20, 22. 37, 33, 22; Roberts, 21, 24, 20, 27, 42.
