VICTORIAN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. Melbourne, Aug. 18. W. A. Edgar won the Victorian State amateur golf championship, defeating A. Russell one up after an exciting match. N.Z. COUNCIL MEETS. Wellington, Aug. 18. A meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council was held to-night, when the following resolution was passed: The members of the council desire to record their sorrow at the death of the late chairman, Mr. R. L. Kirk: their sense of the great loss the association has suffered: and gratitude for his unselfish service to golf in the Dominion; to Mrs Kirk and her family tke council offers deep sympathy. Mr. \V. E. A. Gill, of Wellington, was elected the new chairman, and Sir Alexander Roberts was appointed to fid the vacancy on the council caused by the death of the late Mr. Kirk.
