POLICE STRIKERS
REQUEST FOR BAN TO BE LIFTED. ECHO OF 1923 VICTORIAN TROUBLE. (Received 18, 10.40 a.m.Melbourne, Aug. 18. A deputation from the Trades Hall Council and Ex-Policement’s Association asked the Chief Secretary, Mr. Prendergast, to lift the ban placed on police strikers in November, 1923, and that they be allowed to apply for reinstatement as vacancies occurred. The Minister, in reply, said he did not think the requests at all unreasonable, adding that it was not fair to determine upon a bitter attitude towards police strikers when everybody else was receiving clemency. He promised to place the representations of the deputation before the Cabinet.
