FLYING BOATS
IMPERIAL COMMUNICATION VALUE RECOGNISED. EGYPT-TO-INDIA SERVICE. (British Official Wireless). (Received 18. 11.30 a.m.) Rugby, August 17. 'Hie cruise of the Royal Air Force flying boats is now proceeding in Northern Europe, and the coining cruise of flying boats from Southampton to Singapore, have directed attention to the possibility of using these craft on tile last section of the Imperial Airway’s route to India. At present the flights. on the section between Basra and Karachi are held un pending ratification bv the Persian Government of the agreement nermitting flights along the Persian coast. The value of flying boats in Imperial communication is generally recognised, and “The Times” suggests that two passenger allmetal boats now building for the Air Ministry might be used on the Basra-Karachi section to complete without delay the Egypt to India service.
In view of the 100 per cent, reliability of the Cairo-Basra section and the increasing volume of mail letters carried, the belief is iustified that the commercial community will use it freely when a through service is established.
