REP. TEAM IN AUSTRALIA. UNIVERSITIES EASILY BEATEN. Sydney, Aug 15. In bright hot weather, the New Zealand hockey team met the combined Australian Universities. New Zealand won the toss and played with the sun behind them. The standard of play was not up to that of Saturday, the New Zealanders not taking advantage of all their opportunities. The Universities team was lighter and had the advantage of speed. Within a couple of minutes Hogg had scored for the Universities. Then the game seesawed up and down till the closing stages of the first spell, when NewZealand showed superiority. The spell ended; New Zealand 5, Universities 2. The New- Zealand scorers in this spell were Seecombe (two) and Bell (three). For the Universities Hogg and Fanner scored. Play in the second half was seldom out of Universities’ territory. Simmonds, the goalie, was continually bombarded and made some splendid saves. Cole, Watts and Bell were always prominent in the New Zealand attacks. The Universities failed to add to their score, but the New Zealanders doubled their total, the game ending: New Zealand 10, Universities 2. The New Zealand scorers in the second half were Watts (three), Morriss and Worsfold.
