An British official report shows that there were 7951, or ten per sent fewer convisions for drtmkenness in 1926, compared with 1925. It says: “Viewing the question over a long period the country is growing more sober.’’ Extraordinary preparations are being made for a big diamond rush to a newly-proclaimed farm in the Traqsvaal, reported to be among the richest in the country. Diggers from all parts are crowding the farm and large sums are being offered atlielets to peg the best claims. The owners have spared ho expense in laying out a township on up-to-date lines. The race for the claims will be three miles.
