WAIRARAPA TEAM TO PLAY TARANAKI. Masterton, Aug. 15. Following is the Wairarapa team to play Taranaki:—Roache, Clarke, Stringfellow, Moore, Cooke, Cundy, Hiroti, J. Donald (captain), Irvine, Q. Donald, Harvey, Parker. Reside, Fairbrother, Reid; reserves, Williams, Hart, Churchouse, Ward and McCalmont. MAORIS v. SOUTHLAND.
Invercargill, Aug. 15. Five thousand people attended the match between the Maori team and a Southland second representative XVon Saturday afternoon. A bright and interesting game resulted, and the weather conditions were favourable. The home team did most of the attacking in the first spell, but the visitors subsequently threw the ball about in good style and scored some fine tries principally through the hacks’ clever tactics. At half-time the Maoris led by 5 to 3 but m the second half increased the total to 21 while the home team only scored three additional points. The'Maoris’ total was made up of five tries, three of which were converted, while Southland’s s> e consisted of an unconverted try and a penalty. Southland scored first, Ottrev being responsible, then Pelham got across and Crawford converted. Lockwood was the next scorer and then Pelham again, Orawford adding the additional points. McEwan ’next drop-kicked from a mark a fine goal for Southland. Winiera next scored. Crawford converting. Wilson obtained the final try making the scores 21 to 6 in favour of the Maoris.
